Wolfteam released so many games for the Genesis that it’s a miracle it found time to do anything else. Game after game made its way to our little console, and while some are better than others, most are worth checking out in some way or another. Take Final Zone, for example. With its complex gameplay and isometric view, it probably turned off a lot of gamers, but look deeper and there’s a decent game to be found.
Despite all the advancements in game technology, pinball is still a blast to play. The Genesis has its fair share of games in the genre, and some are weirder than others. Take Renovation’s Dinoland, for example. Designed by the famous Wolfteam, it features a little dinosaur who takes ball form to save his girlfriend. Sound far fetched? Well, it’s probably no more odd than a hedgehog pinging around a ball field.
Ah Wolfteam, Renovation’s star developmental group that seemingly churned out a new game on a weekly basis. There were some stinkers, to be sure, but there was also some great games that spanned multiple genres. One of the team’s lesser-known titles was Granada, a shooter that had the player piloting a massive tank against insurmountable odds (of course).
Wolf Team was on fire during the 16-bit era, producing several Genesis titles that varied from mediocre to excellent (depending on who you ask). One thing the group liked to do was create action games, and a fan favorite of the genre is Wolf Team’s El Viento. Spanish for “the wind,” the game tells the odd tale of a young girl out to stop the resurrection of an ancient demon in New York City.
FMV games – love ’em or hate ’em, they’re a big part of the Sega CD’s history. Some were actually worth playing, although your mileage may vary as to how much. One title that is worth a play or two is Wolf Team’s humoristic Time Gal, which sends the player on an obstacle-filled romp through different periods in history. It didn’t set the world on fire, but it didn’t burn anyone’s house down either. If you’re looking for another disc to spin in your Sega CD, this one’s good for a few hours.
