Links: The Challenge of Golf
It’s always a shame when new hardware is released, and developers fail to take advantage of it for their games. Every console is guilty of this to some regard, but console gamers first really began to feel the frustration with the Sega CD. A slew of cartridge ports with redbook soundtracks made it clear that many developers had neither the skill nor the interest in using the CD-ROM format to its fullest potential. Released a year after the PC original, John Madden Football started a franchise that reigns to this day. Though it may not be the best football game on the console, it is arguably the most important, as it not only spurred the Madden juggernaut but also tons of great competition from companies such as Sega and later Visual Concepts.
Tony La Russa Baseball
The baseball season’s winding down, and soon we’ll be heading to the Fall Classic. Too bad the word “classic” doesn’t apply to Electronic Arts’ Tony La Russa Baseball. It does absolutely nothing to stand out. That wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t play so darn slow. Compared to other baseball games on the Genesis at the time, it’s not really worth a lot of your time
