If ever there was fashion trend that was downright dumb, it was the one involving Kriss Kross putting their pants on the wrong way. Sadly, people were willing to let the duo “warm it up” long enough to join in on the craze, and Sega even went so far as to give them their own video game. Debuting under the Make My Video label alongside such gaming powerhouses such as Marky Mark, Kris Kross’ horrible fashion sense is forever preserved in grainy, low-color video.
Sometimes, a developer’s creation is too ambitious for the hardware for which it’s created. The result is usually game full of lost potential, and players almost always sum things up with a collective “this could have so much more on better hardware.” Sega’s Racing Aces falls into that category. A game with lots of good ideas, it fell victim to a release on hardware too under-powered to fill its potential. The game is still playable, but one never ceases to wonder of what could have been.
Scholastic’s Magic School Bus was a game that focused on science, primarily astronomy, and it offered a myriad of gameplay segments that were engaging enough to keep kids playing but that were never too hard.
After Sega scored a hit with Eternal Champions, it began to look for more ways to keep the characters in the public eye. Spin offs were quickly green-lighted for both the Game Gear and the Genesis, and anxious fans got X-Perts. Not exactly the game they were waiting for, and its development was almost canceled several times. In the end, Sega released a product almost no one was happy with, and it was a black eye to the face of an otherwise popular franchise.
Baseball season’s over for the major leagues, but it’s year-round for Genesis fans! Sega’s incredible World Series Baseball series belts another one out of the park with the 1995 installment. BlueSky was at the top of its game with this edition, and even after so many years it’s still a joy to play.
