Altered Beast is an arcade and Genesis classic, but the Master System version is woefully inferior. Horrible graphics and sound, reduced stages and gameplay elements, and poor control make this one beast that deserves to be put down. Do yourself a favor and get the superior Genesis version instead.
Taz-Mania on the Genesis was a great game with incredible visuals and solid gameplay. Sadly, the Game Gear version bears little resemblance in quality, and sluggish gameplay ruins what could have been a great port. Fans of the character should stick to the Genesis games instead and avoid this one unless they absolutely need to play every Taz game there is.
Originally hailed as a rival to Super Mario Bros. Alex Kidd in Miracle spawned a series that extended to the Genesis. Though it wasn’t as popular as Mario, the franchise is still well-regarded among Sega fans who loved its vehicles, colorful levels, and wacky boss battles. With a big heart and an even bigger punch, original game has become a bona fide Sega classic. Jan-ken-pon!
Jurassic Park roared onto just about every piece of hardware that was out in 1993, including the Master System, which was still around in Europe. It may have been scaled down for the machine, but it offered an excellent adventure.
As with many of Sega’s arcade titles of the ’80s, Quartet found its way onto the Master System. There were many changes in the transition, and the popular four-player feature of the original was lost. Still, the version that came home was fun enough to spend an afternoon with, especially with a friend.
