Puzzle and Action: Tant-R

Like puzzle games? How about obscure titles never released outside of Japan? Until it made an appearance on the Sega Classics Collection, Puzzle & Action: Tant-R never ventured from the shores of its native land. Thankfully, it’s not a real problem if you don’t know the language, and it’s odd that Sega left this quirky little puzzler across the pond. Simple, fun, and full of charm, Tant-R is a game you might want to check out.

Ishido: Way of the Stones

Sometimes, a puzzler just isn’t fun no matter how you slice it. The Genesis is pretty well taken care of in this regard, but some of the earlier entries in the genre don’t hold up. Ishido: Way of the Stones is one game that we just couldn’t get into, and we’ve got a full review to share about our experience. Read on and see if Accolade’s puzzler is one you should avoid.

Puyo Puyo Tsu

We’re big fans of Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine, which is the American version of the first Puyo Puyo game by shooter masters Compile. Needless to say, the sequel is well-loved too, and one never gets tired of tossing those poor little Puyos onto an unwitting foe’s side of the screen. Packed with lots of greats modes and the gameplay the series is famous for, Puyo Puyo Tsu is a Japanese exclusive that’s worth tracking down.

Columns III: Revenge of Columns

By the time Columns III was released in America in 1994, Sega had all but lost interest in the franchise, and farmed out its release to Vic Tokai. This was the second time the series had been snubbed by its creator, as Columns II never saw a console release in the U.S. Perhaps it was a fitting end though, as each game failed to live up to the quality established by the arcade original.

Joshua & the Battle of Jericho

So you’ve played through Klax, and you’ve mastered Columns. So now, you’re probably wondering what Genesis puzzle games are left to play. Well, I’ll bet you’d be surprised to learn that Wisdom Tree’s Joshua & the Battle of Jericho is a worthy addition to the list of puzzlers worth picking up. Many people have either never seen or disregarded it, and that’s a shame.
