Mickey Mouse is set to explode onto the Nintendo 3DS this fall with his true “epic” adventure. Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion is a sequel to the Genesis and Master System classic Castle of Illusion, and gamers will once again be butt-stomping in a beautiful, 2D platformer.

Sega’s Castle of Illusion is considered a classic by many Genesis fans, but what many people don’t know is that a Master System version was also released. To some, it’s actually the better of the two, and being the diehard Mickey fans that we are, we decided to put the two into the spotlight and see which came out on top. The verdict? World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse & Donald Duck
With most of the attention going to the battle being waged between Sonic and Mario, the Mickey Mouse series was almost ignored by most of America in the early ’90s. Most of his games were shelf-sitters and bargain bin warmers, some with good reason (Fantasia anyone?). A few, however, were actually pretty good. Titles such as Castle of Illusion, Mickey Mania, and of course, World of Illusion come to mind.

Most people like Mickey Mouse. We’ve all grown up with him, seen his cartoons, played with the toys, gone to Disney World, etc. The little mouse seems to get the star treatment wherever he goes. Heck, he hasn’t even had to make a movie in years, given his popularity (although the Three Musketeers will change that). Sadly, Mickey hasn’t had as much success in the gaming industry as he’s had in cinema and television. From turds like Mickey Mousecapades and Fantasia, to snore fests like Disney’s Magical Mirror, he’s pretty much been hit-and-miss when it comes to games.
