NBA Live ’96

EA continued its streak of great basketball games with Live ’96. While it wasn’t a major step up from the previous year, it made some minor adjustments that put it among the best games in the sport available on the Genesis. Opinions will vary as to which entry was best overall, but Live ’96 is a solid entry point for 16-bit B-ball fans.

Football season may be over, but it’s always Sunday on the Genesis! Madden ’93 continued EA’s steady evolution of its gridiron juggernaut with the 1993 installment, and it offers a great time for anyone wanting to play armchair quarterback for a while. Grab some chips and a cold one and get ready for some football!

Klax (Mega Drive)

Namco released a version of Klax that was a bit different from Tengen’s, with better sound and a true two-player mode, making it much more faithful to the arcade original. It only came out in Japan but should be obtainable for those puzzle fans looking for the optimal Klax experience. The ’90s may be over, but there’s still time for Klax.

Bugs Bunny in Double Trouble

Bugs Bunny has something of a bad record when it comes to video game appearances. He’s certainly no Mickey Mouse. The trend of bad releases continued on the Genesis with Double Trouble, a game that suffers from frustrating level design and brutal difficulty. The developers definitely should have taken that left turn at Albuquerque.
