Deadly Moves

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and by that logic Capcom’s Street Fighter II must be blushing like a virgin bride on her wedding day. The amount of clones out there that shamelessly rip off the arcade classic is staggering, and it seemed that everyone tried to cash in on the craze at one time or another. Kaneko’s Deadly Moves, also released on the SNES as Power Moves, was one such cash run. To say it compares poorly to its source material would be a major understatement, and one wonders just how inspired (or drunk) its developers really were when they set out to create it.

Ballz

Fighting games are a dime a dozen. Good fighting games, on the other hand, are about as common as a tap dancing bulldog. Fans of the genre must wade though a soup of crap to find those games worth playing, and some titles manage to sneak by due to a goofy gimmick or popular license. Street Smart

I have to admit, I love me a good brawler every now and then. Being the total scrub that I am, I play just for kicks rather than for prestige or rank. That’s what has me checking out more and more of the older fighters out there. Recently forum member Scooter was kind enough to send me a copy of Treco’s Street Smart for the Genesis, and I quickly popped it in, control in hand. A fan of the SNK original, I was amazed at just how poorly this port turned out. Everything that was good has been changed for the worse, and the one thing that was pretty decent – the gameplay – is left to carry the whole game. Suffice it to say that things didn’t work out.

Super Street Fighter II saw a release on several consoles, and the Genesis verion ranks among the best. Packed with just about everything the arcade original had to offer, there are few fighting experiences better on the console, giving players a wonderful game to enjoy alone or with friends.
