It’s been a pretty good month for gaming overall, and hopefully you’ve been able to tear yourself away from Sonic Mania to play some classic Sega consoles. Our staff and readers sure have, and they’ve got a great selection of titles to share this month!
We recently chatted with Patrick Hickey Jr., an author, professor and journalist whose forthcoming book, “The Minds Behind the Games,” examines 36 different classic titles from multiple consoles and includes input from over 50 developers.
From the Game Gear to the Sega CD, Sega’s Ecco the Dolphin was seemingly everywhere in the ’90s. What many people don’t know is that he also made an appearance on the Pico, Sega’s educational children’s console. A variation of the Ecco Jr. game was released, and we’ve given it a hands-on to see if it sinks or swims.

Fans have done some amazing things with video game music, and there are plenty of remixes out there that deserve downloading. Fans of Ecco the Dolphin should definitely check out Sound Waves, which provides a creative and original take on the themes that made that series’ soundtracks so legendary.
