Road Rash
Racing is fun and all, but it’s so much better when you can beat the competition… literally! Road Rash added a great twist to the standard racing format and went on to spawn several sequels across a ton of consoles.
Toughman Contest (32X)
There are tons of boxing games out there and sadly, most of them stink. That’s why NES owners were so darn lucky to get Mike Tyson’s Punchout. The awesome action was matched only by the memorable characters, and Sega gamers spent years on the outside looking in. In 1995, Electronic Arts sought to rectify that with Toughman Contest for the fledgling 32X. Was it as good as Nintendo’s effort? You’ll have to read our full review to find out!
Starflight
Already a favorite of computer gamers, Starflight soared onto the Genesis and promptly left its stamp as one of the best games ever made for the console. True, such comments get tossed around quite a bit, but in this case, it’s more than warranted. The sheer level of freedom and sense of exploration Starflight provided was enough to keep you occupied literally for weeks. The delicate balance between action and simulation was never broken, and it was always a blast.
Shaq-Fu
Fighting games are always fun, aren’t they? They should be, shouldn’t they? That would be the case in a perfect world, but reality is a much different story. One big kick in the shin was Electronic Arts’ Shaq Fu, which contributor VinnyT actually summoned up the courage to play. Why, he’s even gone so far as to write a review about it! See? That’s what we’re here for: we play ’em so you don’t have to!
