Mystic Defender

Remember when the Genesis launched and there were so many cool games to play? Yes, that September and the following months were chock full of great releases, and among them was Mystic Defender, a spiritual sequel, of sorts, to the Master System’s SpellCaster. It had great graphics and gameplay, and plenty of weird enemies to dispatch.

Paperboy 2

Every time a company tinkers with an arcade classic, my heart sinks. Lamentably, it seems to have hit solid bedrock with Paperboy 2, a game that tries to improve upon a formula that needed no tweaking at all. The result? Pure mediocrity.

Soldiers of Fortune

PC lovers know the Bitmap Brothers well, and they’ve enjoyed plenty of hits over the years. Genesis owners got a good piece of the pie too, with such classics as Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe. Another hit with Soldiers of Fortune, which was known as the Chaos Engine on the Amiga, made its way to both 16-bit consoles. It definitely has its fans, and we have a full review on it to persuade those fence-sitters to run out and get a copy!

Batman: The Video Game

The first review of the new year! Sega-16 starts 2006 six with a batarang, with a review of the first of the Dark Knight’s adventures on the Genesis. Batman: The Video Game came out in the shadow of the awesome NES release, but was it better? You’ll have to read our review to find out!
