Gunstar Heroes was an amazing game, and the Game Gear version is virtually as good as its Genesis counterpart. A Japanese exclusive, it received some changes that may not appeal to fans of the original. Still, it’s portable Gunstar! What more could you want?

Marsupilami
Arriving late in the lifespan of the Genesis, Marsupilami is a platformer that’s based on a popular European comic. It tries to mix up the genre by adding in a different type of gameplay mechanic, but it doesn’t always succeed as planned. Even so, it’s very playable and looks great, making it worthy of some attention.
Brian Lara Cricket ’96
While most Americans are watching football, many around the world enjoy playing cricket. The British sport is played on almost every continent, so it shouldn’t be surprising that there is a Mega Drive version. It also shouldn’t be surprising that it wasn’t released in the U.S. Still, it’s an excellent rendition and a great chance for Genesis owners to learn about this unique and engaging game.
Total Football
Among the many Genesis soccer games is a title that was never released in North America. Total Football is a competent game that may be worth closer examination, but its quirky control scheme and sub-par feature list may keep more diehard fans glued to their copies of FIFA and Sensible Soccer.
Micro Machines Military
Micro Machines have a proven track record on the Genesis, and no matter which one you chose, you’re bound to find a great game. Those who have already tried other releases in the series might want to check out Micro Machines Military, which puts a weapons-based spin on the gameplay. It’s not entirely revolutionary, but it still makes for a great time.
