Christmas 1994 saw the release of a game that many anticipated, but relatively few bought. The irony was that sales were hampered not by the game itself, but by the hardware it was on. Though many people wanted to play Star Wars Arcade on the 32X, few were willing to shell out the cash for the add-on. Sales were decent enough initially, but it was a sign of things to come. Lunar: Eternal Blue
Lunar Eternal Blue was the highest-selling title in Sega CD history and rightly so. Mixing incredible storytelling with a solid battle engine and loveable characters, it was everything a sequel should be. Working Designs scored big with this one and it’s a title that deserves to be in any self-respecting Sega CD owner’s collection.
Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel
A game that manages to offend in gameplay as much as it does in premise doesn’t come along often, but somehow Sunsoft pulled it off. Still, people have a thing for small mammals, and there’s actually some meat on this platformer’s bones if you’re willing to stick around long enough to find it.
Disney’s The Lion King
The Lion King is a faithful and enjoyable adaptation of Disney’s classic film. Simba’s quest to retake his kingdom from the evil Scar is a challenging and beautifully-crafted platformer that shows Disney and Virgin Interactive at their finest!
Spiritual Warfare
Wisdom Tree sure had a run during the 8-bit era, releasing several mediocre games that were eventually ported to the Genesis…intact. Yes, games like Spiritual Warfare are perhaps the best justification for not trusting unlicensed wares, and we’ve the review to prove it. I’ll never doubt that Sega Seal of Quality again.
