Rocking and racing are two things that seem to go together well. Think about it: rock music blended with fast paced racing action; how could it go wrong? Well, what if the hardware wasn’t really able to produce the rocking part as it should? Is the solid gameplay of a faithful port enough to make up for it?

Joe & Mac

Life in prehistoric times must have been really hard. Aside from the whole “hundreds of ferocious dinosaurs out to eat you” thing, you had other cavemen stealing your women when you weren’t looking! For Joe & Mac though, such adversity wasn’t a problem; it was an excuse to kick some caveman tail. So great was their arcade anger, so powerful was their strength, that the duo found their way to several consoles, including the Genesis.

With so many different options, it seems as though there’s something for everyone, and while all are loved, none are more prestigious than formula one racing. So why then, did Sega’s Formula One World Championship for Sega CD try its best to burn rubber on such a grand legacy?

Ballz

Fighting games are a dime a dozen. Good fighting games, on the other hand, are about as common as a tap dancing bulldog. Fans of the genre must wade though a soup of crap to find those games worth playing, and some titles manage to sneak by due to a goofy gimmick or popular license. Accolade’s Ballz is one title that whose worth is still debated by gamers, with some applauding the great 3D feel and fresh direction, while others decry the questionable gameplay.

Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures

Namco has maintained Pac-Man in the public eye for almost three decades, reinventing him every so often so that younger generations of gamers never forget the premier mascot of the industry. The incredible Pac-Man Championship Edition on Xbox Live Arcade, for example, shows how the yellow icon still has what it takes to make an impact. It hasn’t always been this way though. Over the years, Namco has tried all kinds of different formulas with Pac-Man, and some weren’t as successful as others. One of the more offbeat variations of the theme was Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures, which adopted a graphic adventure interface and took a lot of the chomp out of the gameplay.
