Impressive in the arcades and on the NES, Super Off Road comes to the Game Gear, and it even has two-player support. Lamentably, that’s about all it has, unless you count the slippery control, crushing difficulty, and meager track selection. Maybe it’s better if this truck gets left in the garage…
Jeopardy! has maintained a solid presence on game consoles, with multiple editions available for the Genesis and Sega CD. Sadly, the Deluxe Edition turned out to be little more than what would today be called an expansion pack. Only the most diehard Trebek fans need apply if they need this one to go along side their original and sport editions.
In 1993, Sega CD owners had the chance to obtain a free copy of Virtual VCR through the mail. It was a simple offering from Sega, with little in the way of gameplay in any sense. It doesn’t take long to release why it was never sold at retail, and even less time to move on to something else entirely.
The Avengers assembled on the Game Gear, but something didn’t make it to the meeting. The game tries to mimic its more powerful console and arcade siblings, and while some of that does make it through, a lot of what made the original game so much fun gets lost in the translation. Maybe someone should call the X-Men next time.
The Sega CD has a vast library of FMV games, and while most tend to associate the machine with Digital Pictures, other companies produced titles as well. American Laser Games contributed several games, including the hilariously campy Crime Patrol. It’s goofy FMV action at its best!
