What better way to compliment Monday Night Football than with a review of a Genesis NFL game? I’ll tell you a better way: include a game actually worth playing. The Joe Montana series was notoriously hit and miss, and the ’93 installment appears to be one of the bigger misses. Among the problems cited are a clunky interface and poor AI. Hey, that actually doesn’t sound too far off from this year’s Madden! We kid about that last part, but the Montana part is still true.

Heavy Nova
The thought of upgradable robots battling to the death should have been a recipe for pure win. In reality, Heavy Nova was a slow, plodding game that took some serious patience to love. Unfortunately, most gamers haven’t been that devoted, and Heavy Nova is sort of overlooked today.
Galahad
Many Americans in early ’90s may not have seen all the great games that came out for computers, but they sure did get their fair share of Amiga love by way of the Genesis. Many great games were ported, among them Psygnosis’ Galahad, which was a tough action/platformer with great visuals. How does the Genesis version fare against the original?
Universal Soldier
Accolade took the superb game that was Turrican II and dressed it up to tie in with the film release of the Van Damme vehicle Universal Soldier. The result was a hodgepodge of good and bad moments, but the game’s true heritage manages to shine through long enough to actually overcome the questionable licensing. If you’re a fan of the Turrican series (and you should be), you need to play this one, especially if you haven’t played Turrican II in its unaltered, awesome original form.
Jennifer Capriati Tennis
Wimbledon may be over, but that doesn’t mean you can’t continue enjoying the tennis action of pros! As always, the Genesis has you covered, with Jennifer Capriati Tennis, a game featuring the bad girl of the sport. Suprisingly, this isn’t another one of those licensed shovelware pieces normally associated with a big name. There’s some real depth here, and the game is a lot of fun. It also has the creepiest title screen in all of gaming.
