Sega’s early mascot returns for his final Master System outing, released a year after his Genesis debut (and finale). A funny spoof on another Sega franchise, Shinobi World is still a fun game to play. It’s a bit on the easy side, but it’s worth checking out… if you’re willing to pay the prices it goes for nowadays.

Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse (Master System)
Mickey’s first outing on the Master System was different than the Genesis game but just as good. Great visuals and solid gameplay make for a wonderful Disney adventure that anyone with a Master System should have in their library. Fans of the Genesis version should check it out to see a whole different adventure than the one they’re used to.
Speedball (Master System)
The Bitmap Bros. are renowned for their excellent games, titles that are both well-presented and that play great. Speedball on the Genesis is a great example of that, but the Master System port, done by Mirrorsoft/Image Works, doesn’t fare as well. Everything that made the Genesis version so good is missing, so there’s no reason to bother with this version.
Cyber Shinobi
You can’t keep a good Musashi down! Cyber Shinobi sees the return of Sega’s favorite ninja to the Master System, and while it may not compare to its classic Genesis siblings, it stands as a solid entry in the series. Some level design and presentation issues keep it from the head of the ninja pack, but it’s definitely worth checking out.
Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar
Think you’ve finished all the RPGs on the Master System? We bet you haven’t played this one, especially if you’re in North America. As the only Ultima game to come to Sega’s 8-bit wonder, Quest for the Avatar brought a entirely different take on the console RPG genre and offered a massive world with an intricate morality system. It’s definitely a must-play for RPG fans!
