Liberty or Death

Koei was the master of the console strategy sim, and there’s one game in its catalog that actually lets players relive the American Revolution. Deep and engaging, the game also requires almost as much time as the war itself did, so those easily intimidated by tons of variables and long, drawn-out conflicts should perhaps just declare themselves conscientious objectors instead.

Teasers: It Came from the Desert

While It Came from the Desert has been available as freeware and in reproduction form for a while now, it’s finally getting the licensed treatment denied to it back in 1990. Developer Cinemaware is partnering with Pier Solar creators Watermelon to give the game the full physical release treatment for Christmas 2014. Another lost Genesis title finally comes home!

Sega’s Toshokan modem service in Japan had a few titles that were released here, such as Flicky and Fatal Labyrinth. However, there were quite a few that never came to the west, and 16t is one such title. It has that early ’80s arcade flavor to it, and while there’s not much depth, its simple to play and can be fun for a while.

FIFA International Soccer

The World Cup may be over, but there’s plenty of soccer action to be found on the Genesis. EA sports has you covered with the first installment in its long-running FIFA series. This is the one that started it all! Later entries may have eclipsed it, but it was here that the groundwork was set, and it introduced four-player gameplay to the series.
