Second Samurai

Region-specific games are the bane of fans of all consoles. No matter how many great games come to one’s specific region, there is always a ton more that got left somewhere else. The Genesis is no exception, and there are more awesome titles left in Europe and Japan than you can shake a Menacer at. Second Samurai is one such title, and we wouldn’t be surprised if you’re right now wondering what the heck game it was that we just mentioned. See? That’s what happens when games stay in just one region!

Sega Download: iPhone Gaming

The Genesis has had something of a resurgence over the last few years. From the releases of three new RPGs to a new compilation for modern consoles and the steady stream of games coming to the Wii’s Virtual Console, there’s no shortage of 16-bit goodness to be had. Few should be surprised then, that Sega has turned its cannons to mobile phones. Already releasing titles for the iPhone and other cells, Sega has now began cranking up the amount of Genesis titles being released on Apple’s little wonder.

NBA Hangtime

Time to put on the shoes and BOOM SHAKA-LAKA your way to victory on the court! Wait, this isn’t NBA Jam? Ah, well NBA Hangtime is so close to the Midway classic that you’d be hard pressed to know the difference. The developers (not the same as Jam’s) tried to make their game stand out a bit from such a long shadow, but the effort was mostly hit-and-miss.

Yesterday marked the 20th anniversary of the Sega Genesis, and you didn’t think we’d forget, did you? Why celebrate one day when you can party from launch date to nationwide release? For that reason we’ll be reminiscing for the next month about the console that we love so dear through a series of features that highlight the little black box’s rise to fame. World Series Baseball ’95

Baseball season’s over for the major leagues, but it’s year-round for Genesis fans! Sega’s incredible World Series Baseball series belts another one out of the park with the 1995 installment. BlueSky was at the top of its game with this edition, and even after so many years it’s still a joy to play.
