In the arcades, Atari’s T-MEK was a monstrous and intimidating machine. The massive cab fit two players and could be linked to another, making for some awesome four-player matches. The 32X version, however, lost that great multi-player capability in the conversion (along with most of the game’s charm), and if you listened hard enough, you could hear the poor little mushroom panting as it strained under the T-MEK’s engine. I guess it’s true that sometimes, a game is better left in the arcade.
Long believed to be a bootleg, Yang Jia Jiang (known as Yang Warrior Family outside of China), is most likely a legitimate, unlicensed release. Details on the game’s development and distribution are scarce, as they are with most Chinese Mega Drive titles, but we can at least still review it for public consumption. Read our full review and see if this one is worth hunting down. Be warned though; there are a ton of pirate versions that are not the same, so care is needed to find an original copy.
Konami’s Lethal Enforcers is a fan favorite, and one of the best reasons to own a light gun. The Genesis version retains most of the charm that made the arcade original so much fun, despite suffering the downgrade that usually happens during the porting process. Krikzz’s Everdrive is a neat little piece of hardware that offers a large storage size and modern transfer methods, and it’s not that expensive to boot!
Released a year after the PC original, John Madden Football started a franchise that reigns to this day. Though it may not be the best football game on the console, it is arguably the most important, as it not only spurred the Madden juggernaut but also tons of great competition from companies such as Sega and later Visual Concepts.
