Some great news about Sonic (trust us, it’s actually good news!), more updates from WaterMelon Group, and Genesis games on the Sony PS Vita! This installment of MEGA Bites has some great info you, so come on in and see what’s been on the Genesis grapevine for the past few weeks.
Sega did a great job porting Data East’s arcade shooter, and Darwin 4081 is sure to offer a decidedly different take on space shooters for those who think they’ve seen it all. This Japan-only import sports some solid gameplay and an interesting weapons system, and while it’s not the best shmup around, it’s one that’s worth checking out.
With the NFL playoffs entering high gear, we take a look back at the video game franchise that is virtually synonymous with American football. The Madden games have enjoyed continued success on many different consoles, but it was on the Genesis that it really became a powerhouse franchise. Sandwiched between the 16-bit and true 32-bit versions, FIFA Soccer ’96 for the 32X is a middle child that actually deserves its neglect. It does nothing to stand out, and it offers little reason for a purchase over its siblings, outside of collecting. Still, it’s undoubtedly the best soccer game on the 32X.
A true Sega Star, Naoto Ōshima has put his artistic and design talents behind a plethora of Sega classics for the Master System, Saturn, and Dreamcast, and he eventually branched out to found one of the most prolific independent game studios in Japan. Oh, and he also created Sonic The Hedgehog.
