    Megadrive Where is Teki-Paki?

The Mega Drive version of the game was reportedly complete, but it is thought management problems at Toaplan prevented the game finding a publisher (curiously, however, Slap Fight MD, announced around the same period, was brought to the system by Tengen). No other home adaptions of Teki Paki were ever released.

    This looks fun! Excellent find!
The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.

Then we set about developing killer games.

I don't like puzzle games, but I want to hear the full soundtrack.

Is there a company that still has the source code? Can the Rom be dumped? This would totally sell...

    Cool name and looks fun.
Never heard of it before, thanks for bringing it up Barone. Listening to some tracks from the arcade right now, cool music!

It's actually very offensive to some. If it were ever released outside of Japan it'd need a name change, fo sho.

I doubt the source code is still around but I bet there must be some copy lost in some warehouse. Good luck though, finding prototypes from Japan is a lot harder as Japanese tend to be a lot more tidy about their stuff =P (most of the unreleased games we have were copies that got lost around and ended up in one of the devs' house usually)

To be fair, if it got to the point that there are TV ads, it's possible somebody from the press got a copy for review...

I was thinking the same. If it was localized over in the West, I'd doubt they'd use the name, given it's (racist) history.

For non-english locutors, could we have an explanation about the rude name ?

It's a slur term for Pakistani people.

To be fair, it looked somewhere in between Pac-Attack and Puyo Puyo(Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, in this case) anyway. I'm sure it would have had it's own quirks, but puzzle game fans were still covered with or without it.

Nice find! I have no idea if the game would be good or not. Really strange they'd make a video and broadcast it before finding a publisher. I'm sure that publisher would have liked to have been mentioned in it.

Even if the name didn't include a happens to be a slur, probably it'd have been changed anyway because Western localizators would have considered it too weird. Quick reminder: Puyo Puyo almost ends up getting renamed to Puzlow Kids o_O
