Spider-Man: The Animated Series follows Spidey throughout six levels and features a bevy of villains as well, but the result sadly proves to be a tiresome bore. Read the full review for more details.

Cadillacs & Dinosaurs
Dinosaurs always make things better, don’t they? What can be better than giant lizards smashing stuff? Well, pair them with fast cars, and you have the makings of the comic book classic Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. Capcom gave it the arcade treatment, and Rocket Science Games brought a FMV perspective to the series on the Sega CD. Wait! Come back! It’s not as bad as it sounds! Aside from being repetitive, the game’s not that bad, and the FMV gameplay is actually not at fault.
Phantom 2040
King Feature Syndicate’s The Phantom has been delighting readers since the 1930s, and every so often the character is revamped for new audiences. One of the most recent attempts came in the form of a new cartoon series that spawned a comic book and video game. The Phantom was recast as a young man turned hero in the mid 21st century. Phantom 2040lets the player control the Ghost Who Walks in a great adventure that bears more than a few similarities to Nintendo’s Metroid. Oh, you’ve never heard of it? Osomatsu-kun: Hachamecha Gekijō
When the Mega Drive debuted in Japan in 1988, it began a long run of quirky Japanese games based on franchises most westerners had never dreamed existed. It’s understandable then, that most of these series never left the Land of the Rising Sun. Take the platformer Osomatsu-kun: Hachamecha Gekijo, or Nonsense Theater in English, for example. Could you imagine anyone on your street playing this instead of Golden Axe or Ghouls ‘n Ghosts? We can’t either. Still, it’s something to check out, at least out of curiosity.
Ax Battler: A Legend of Golden Axe
Most everyone loves the Golden Axe series. The main trilogy is considered sacred by hack-‘n-slash fans, but all cringe when talk of the spin-offs comes up. For some reason, Sega was never able to really capture the same magic (vases) with later outings, and most of what’s out there is better left untouched. Case in point: Ax Battler: A Legend of Golden Axe for the Game Gear. Is it trying to be like Zelda II? If so, we don’t think Link has too much to worry about with this one.
