Sonic returns in the second installment of to his fourth official outing. There have been some improvements to most of the major issues from the first game, but new problems take away from what could have been a major lift to this series. Read our complete hands-on and see why!
Hands-On
Hands-On: Columns Crown (GBA)
Sega’s answer to Tetris never got the level of attention it should have. Games in the series are sparse and spread over many different platforms, and some, like Columns Crown, are about as far off from the original title as possible. They say variety is a good thing, but does that apply to classic puzzle franchises? Read on and see.
Hands-On: After Burner (NES)
Sega’s adrenaline-soaked fighter game has made an appearance on every single piece of its hardware since the Master System. It was also released on a ton of other consoles, including the NES, and this last machine actually got a competent little port, courtesy of Tengen. Nintendo fans can fly the unfriendly skies too!
Hands-On: Sonic Generations (PlayStation 3)
In celebration of Sonic’s 20th anniversary, Sega has put together a birthday bash that brings the hero of old together with his modern counterpart. The game still shows the flaws of two decades of lackluster Sonic games, but it also shows something missing from the series for years: potential.
Hands-On: Shining Force (iPhone)
Sega has certainly made a point to bring the original Shining Force to as many platforms as possible, with the game appearing on several compilations. Of course, a mobile phone version couldn’t be far behind, and the game slashed its way to the iPhone this past summer. So what better way to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the series than by giving this latest version a full hands-on?
